New Mexico Junior College   Summer Camp Instructor Position: Digital Arts, Technology & STEM

New Mexico Junior College, in conjunction with Black Rocket Productions, is seeking enthusiastic, motivated and talented individuals to work as a Lead Instructor to help teach exciting classes like LEGO Films, Young Coders and Game Design!

A Lead Instructor must be at least 21 years of age by May 2024.  This is a perfect job for K12 certified classroom teachers with summers off who want to teach children various types of new technology. Lead Instructors are adults who are responsible for the well-being and education of the students.  A lead instructor may have either a degree/experience in education or significant experience in one of the content areas.  They must have a strong understanding of the course concepts being taught as well as any techniques and software involved.  Classroom management skills are preferred.  Upon completion of the Black Rocket training program, instructors must demonstrate competency in the core concepts and software used.  In addition to teaching responsibilities, lead instructors are also responsible for the supervision of staff, equipment management, enforcement of site policies, and meeting project deadlines.  Training begins in late spring.  This is a seasonal position.  Experience with technology preferred, but not required.  Training is provided.

Get paid to build your resume and have a ton of fun! Training is paid and mostly online with some on site at New Mexico Junior College. Each new hire will attend an online training program to learn the curriculum and the Black Rocket approach. Training begins in May 2024.

The position is full day (8:30 am - 4:30 pm), Monday-Friday for the weeks of June 24th through July 22nd.  4 weeks total are available. 

 

Experience and Skills

Qualifications for Lead Instructor:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or in progress)
  • Experience teaching kids ages 6-12
  • Teaching Certification strongly preferred

  • Must be available the weeks listed above

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience with programming, coding, game design, and technology is preferred but not required 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

Duties of our Lead Instructors include, but are not limited to: 

  1. Prepare adequately by reviewing and internalizing the prepared curricula for the courses to be taught.

  2. Prepare for and deliver multiple rotations of BRP curriculum per day to groups of up to 20 campers.

  3. Familiarize oneself with the necessary software in order to educate and utilize in the classroom.

  4. Implement the curriculum as written, adapting it as needed to improve the camper experience or accommodate individual campers.

  5. Provide leadership, energy and camp spirit, constantly assessing group dynamics and the needs of individual campers.

  6. Supervise Assistant Instructors working in your program area and inspire them to become excellent instructors.

  7. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and outside the classroom. 

Job Benefits

This is a part-time, hourly, non-permanent/seasonal position. 

The compensation range for this position $15 to $17 per hour.

$100 stipend per course training is allotted.
