Job Description

Cabrillo College  Instructor and Teacher Assistant Positions: Digital Arts, Technology & STEM

Are you passionate about Tech Education and STEM? Cabrillo College, in conjunction with Black Rocket Productions, is seeking enthusiastic, motivated and talented individuals to work as Lead Instructors and Teacher Assistants to help implement exciting, tech-based camps like YouTube Content Creators, Python Programmers, A.I. Adventures, and more!

  • 8 Weeks (Monday through Friday) from July 3rd - August 2nd

  • Instructors and TAs must commit to 1 full week minimum but all 8 weeks are NOT required 

  • 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
  • In-room with kids ages 9-15

  • Comprehensive PAID training!

  • No formal experience required

  • Spend the summer with our AMAZING students having fun with technology!

General Requirements:

  • Located within commuting distance of Cabrillo College's Aptos Campus, CA, and have a reliable form of transportation

  • Experience with children in an educational setting preferred but not required 

  • Strong technology skills are preferred, such as 3D modeling, coding, game creation or design, animation, robotics, modifying games, video editing, competitive gaming, significant knowledge of Minecraft or Roblox, etc.

  • Available to complete online training, PAID (Train at your own pace.)

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to offer accommodations or work sponsorship.

  • Must be available to work at least one full week of the eight weeks available

Lead Instructor Info & Requirements:

  • 21 years of age or older preferred, 18 years of age required

  • Background check required
  • College graduates with a degree in education, digital arts, computer science, information technology or related fields and/or significant relevant work experience are ideal. College seniors with experience with groups of kids are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience teaching kids is not required, but the ideal candidate will have some experience with kids in a formal or informal setting (classroom, volunteering, childcare, tutoring, coaching, etc.)
  • Ability to facilitate a class of up to 22 kids with a co-teacher/assistant in a technology setting

  • $800 - $1,000 per camp occurrence = compensation for the Lead Instructor

  • Training is $200 per camp topic prep

Teacher Assistant Info & Requirements:

  • 18 years of age required

  •  Background check required 

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate program: Fine Arts or Technology-based field of study preferred, but not required

  • Experience working with children is preferred, but not required

  • Hourly compensation = $17-$18 per hour, depending on experience

Experience and Skills

Duties of our Instructors include, but are not limited to: 

  1. Prepare adequately by reviewing and internalizing the prepared curricula for the courses to be taught.

  2. Prepare for and deliver BR curriculum to groups of up to 22 campers with an additional experienced instructor.

  3. Familiarize oneself with the necessary software in order to educate and utilize in the classroom.

  4. Implement the curriculum as written, adapting it as needed to improve the camper experience or accommodate individual campers.

  5. Provide leadership, energy and camp spirit, constantly assessing group dynamics and the needs of individual campers.

  6. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and outside the classroom. 

Duties of our Assistant Instructors/TAs include, but are not limited to: 

  1. Familiarize oneself with the necessary software in order to educate and utilize in the classroom.

  2. Assist Lead Instructors in delivering the curriculum, learning skills necessary to be an effective and successful educator.

  3. Provide leadership, energy and camp spirit, constantly assessing group dynamics and the needs of individual campers.

  4. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and outside the classroom. 

  5. Practice and promote positive interaction with and among students.

  6. Assume responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities.

  7. Maintain professional status through communication with students, parents, program directors and supervisors.

  8. Support camper check-in and check-out processes.

  9. Provide excellent customer service to parents by communicating with them on a daily basis about their camper’s experience.

Job Benefits

Compensation for Lead Instructors & TAs:
 
Instructor = $800 - $1,000 per camp occurrence
Instructor Training = $200 per camp topic prep
 
Teacher Assistant =  $17-$18 per hour, depending on experience
